Rejected petition Deem sales of lottery tickets & scratchcards as non-essential through COVID-19
Stop Camelot from selling lottery tickets and scratchcards in retail stores during the retail restrictions due to COVID-19
More details
Anything which requires our retail workers to come into contact with customers creates risk at this time. Retailers are bring forward many measures that help their colleagues (e.g. self scanning & encouraging cashless transactions) however retailers cannot turn off lottery machines unless instructed by Camelot.
I'm calling on the government to compel Camelot to either cease lottery ticket sales or move too wholly online whilst retail restrictions are in place and bookmakers closed.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
"The Government has closed non-essential retailers, and provided a list of those that may remain open. Of those allowed to remain open, it is a choice for retailers whether to do so, and which items they continue to sell, including lottery tickets. The Government has also issued advice to retailers about social distancing and keeping staff safe: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/social-distancing-in-the-workplace-during-coronavirus-covid-19-sector-guidance#retail
You could start a petition calling for the National Lottery to be suspended during the outbreak, if this is something you would like to see happen.
