Rejected petition Employees who work in a care home should be considered skilled and professionals

Employees who work in care homes (especially care assistants) should be titled as skilled professionals just like NHS employees. They should also get increased wages for the work they do. Additionally, they should be required for more training.

More details

Personally working as a care assistant in an elderly care home, it takes an incredible amount of training, responsibility and a constant positive mindset to work in these environments. Most of these skills cannot be taught. It can be physically and mentally draining for an employee in a care home; they have people's lives in their hands just as much as NHS employees do. They seem to be forgotten about. Where is our recognition for the work we do? Where is our respect?

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The Government is not responsible for designating workers as skilled, except in reference to certain immigration matters, and is also not responsible for the pay of privately employed workers.

We have published a petition calling on the Government to consider social care as equally important to NHS, which you might like to sign: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/302897

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
