Rejected petition Allow garden centres to remain open during the coronavirus crisis
We earnestly request that the Government should consider allowing
garden centres and nurseries to remain open during the current
coronavirus crisis, with the restrictions on visits, customer numbers
and social distancing currently in place for other retail outlets allowed
to remain open.

In the current crisis, gardening is one of the very few recreational
activities still available to the public. It is widely acknowledged to be beneficial to physical, mental and emotional health. The keenest gardeners tend to be among the elderly - those who are currently under the greatest restrictions. Encouraging the growing of produce may be beneficial if food shortages start to happen. If a large number of garden centres fail, it will impact gardening in this country for years to come.
