Rejected petition Stop private accommodations such as homes for students charging rent
Advise/stop private student accommodations from charging term three rent when students have had to return home and cannot return back to the accommodation through the lockdown.
More details
Many students have not got the financial stability to be able to pay rent when them and their parents are now out of work. They are expecting us to use our student loan to pay for this but we need this loan to pay for other necessities such as food as this is what it is intended for and there is limited income in our houses.
Other accommodations such as university owned have waived the term 3 rent immediately, private accommodations should have the same stance.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Suspending payments for rent is a matter for individual landlords, and not the UK Government or Parliament.
