Discrimination against people on the basis of weight can have a very negative effect on individuals subjected to such treatment. Studies in the US have shown that size discrimination can have detrimental effects on physical and psychological health, cause wage disparities, affect hiring and promotion at work and affect academic options and advancement. For these reasons, some cities in the US have already put laws in place to stop discrimination against people based on 'weight, height or physical characteristics', and I believe that the United Kingdom should do the same
