Important:

This petition was submitted during the 2010-2015 parliament

Rejected petition Spend road tax (VED) on the roads.

More details

Currently the road tax is not spent entirely on new roads and road maintenance. The tax was initially levied for just this reason and was supposed to be a temporary measure. Well if you are going to keep the promise on it being a temporary tax at least do the decent thing of spending it on what it is raised for.

As more cars take to the road and we are expecting growth in vehicles of some 40% over the next 30 years or so, then money will be raised to improve our road system to cope just as we would now if the current revenue was spent one the roads.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

This petition relates to the Road Fund licence, which was hypothecated to road building, but which was abolished in 1937. If you wish to submit a petition about the cureent Vehicle Excise Duty, which is general taxation and not hypothecated to road building, please make that clear.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
