Currently VAT is charged on fuel duty. This is a tax on tax. This may well be illegal and in any case must be rectified as soon as possible. There should be a single tax on fuel, a fixed amount per litre, set at each budget for the coming year.This would be fairer and more transparent and reduce the wild fluctuations in fuel prices due to the effect of the governments huge % take.
