Rejected petition Pay the self employed 80% of their wages during COVID19
All self employed people who are unable to work during COVID19 should be paid 80% of their wages to be inline with the employed.
Savings or partners should NOT be considered when applying for universal credit as this will only result in future financial strain as savings will run dry.
More details
Supporting small businesses and sole traders will ensure the economy stays afloat during these unprecedented times.
If the self employed apply for Universal Credit and live with their partner, their partners income is considered but not their outgoings. If the partner has ‘enough‘ to support the applicant - the applicant gets nothing. Disposable income should determine whether a partner can support the applicant or not. Otherwise, the employed will subsequently suffer as well.
