Rejected petition Airport Expansion and Peak Oil
More details
In 2011, the Government (1) accepted that an oil supply “crunch” if not a peak in oil production was very likely before 2020 and promised to develop energy policies for a resource constrained future. Plans for airport expansion continue, despite studies indicating a shortage of aviation fuel by 2026 (2).
Based upon how vulnerable the policies are to oil price shocks and restricted availability, Government should be planning using risk banding, prioritisation and the growing evidence that suggests the 2012 oil price crisis warns of the imminent peak of global oil production.
