Rejected petition Change the academic year to run January to December as a result of Covid-19.

When schools and other educational settings return on a full-time basis (probably after the 6 weeks holiday) students of all ages should rejoin the year which they left until December. This would allow them to finish their studies before moving into their next setting in January 2021.

More details

Students and teachers from all areas will be in a position where they will be catching up on missed learning for at least 18-months. At a time when the health and well-being of our population (especially the young and vulnerable) is of paramount importance we must think innovatively as to how to set those learners up for success. Pupils making those transitions between key phases in particular will benefit hugely from being given time to conclude their studies in a familiar environment.
