Rejected petition Ban Pay-Day loan companies from advertising on Television

More details

75% of the UK's voters in a poll published on the 6 February 2012 stated that they opposed pay-day loan companies advertising their products on the Television. The high interest rates charged, and the instant lure of cash advertised often on day-time television are two moral wrongs. We, the people, do not want it. It is up to Parliament to listen to our concerns. Ban pay-day loan companies from advertising on television.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Advertising in the UK is controlled through a system of co-regulation and self-regulation, which is administered by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). This regulatory system is independent of Government and is ultimately responsible for setting the standards in advertising.

The ASA regulates advertising in all media and they ensure that advertisements, wherever they appear, comply, in full, with the requirements of the UK advertising codes – in particular that they are legal, decent, honest and truthful.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
