Rejected petition Remove all statues and plaques within the U.K. that commemorate the slave trade.

All public commemorations to the slave trade should be taken down. It is important for us to now recognise the blood, sweat and tears of those upon whom this nation was built. It is now time to honour the sacrifices of the slaves, their survivors, families and communities.

More details

In order to redress the legacy of the slave trade and advance the process of reconciliation, a Truth and Reconciliation Tribunal should be commissioned. Part of this reconciliation process would involve removal of any inflammatory commemorations, such as statues and plaques honouring the slave trade.
There has been precedent set in professional sport for a more culturally appropriate name. Examples: NBA - Tri-Cities "Blackhawks" = Atlanta Hawks; MLB - Burlington Indians = Burlington Royals.
