Why do successive Gorvernments support not only organised crime but also the Belgian economy with repeatedly increasing tobacco duty.

No matter what any says or does thos that want to smoke will, it's a fact of life and no amount of increases in duty will stop them.

This government could save billions each by cutting this duty to make the cost of these goods comparable with mainland europe. This would mean that it would not be worth the black marketeers troble of illegaly importing and selling tobacco. There would also mean that customs' officers wuld not have to spend the majority of their time fighting this sort of crime.
