Petition A Referendum On Using Open-List Party Proportional Representation In The UK
More details
Vote for a referendum on switching to a open-list party proportional representation voting system instead of the current first-past-the-post voting system.
Details on party proportional representation
- The House of Commons will have exactly 500 MP's.
- No Constituencies
- Political parties need either 10% of all UK votes to qualify for seats in the House of Commons OR 10% of all votes in any of the 12 regions: East Midlands; East of England; Greater London; North East England; North West England; South East England; South West England; West Midlands; Yorkshire and the Humber; Scotland; Northern Ireland; Wales.
- In a general election, people vote for a party and for the party leader to become prime minister. They can also vote for a person in that party to be elected as an MP. If the party does not get enough votes to qualify for seats, that parties votes are discarded. The Sainte-Laguë Method will be used to allocate the seats between the parties that have qualified.
