Rejected petition Ban selling religious items such as statues and prayer mats in normal shops

I want to ban selling religious items in shops as decorations because it as seen as disrespectful and offensive to people who belong to a certain religion.

More details

I think we should ban this because they are seen more as decorations to the public rather than items used for praying. It is seen as disrespectful when Buddha statues are on the floor or not in a high place and that is usually where they are in common households. Buddhas statue is supposed to be used for praying and respect, not decorations.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Which items are sold by certain retailers is a matter for them and it is for their customers to decide whether or not to buy them, and how to use or display them. If such an item was then used to harass someone on account of their religious beliefs, this would already be illegal under the Equality Act 2010.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
