Petition Perfumes are toxic - regulate the industry
More details
Petro-chemicals, and other harmful synthetic compounds are being used in increasing amounts in perfumes, cosmetics and other everyday products.
Some perfumes use highly volatile toxic chemicals that can affect other people as well as those who wear them; ‘passive toxicity’, Smoking in public was banned for that reason. Many of the toxic chemicals used in perfumes can enter other people’s blood streams via the nose, eyes and mouth.
They are causing allergic reactions and many have long-term, serious health implications for humans.
The industry is self-regulated = unregulated.
Research should be carried out with each individual compound before it can be used. Only products that have been independently tested and certified safe for human and environmental use should be used.
Certified synthetic chemicals should be heavily taxed to discourage their use in favour of natural alternatives.
