Rejected petition Require water companies in the south east to expand water storage facilities

Bring pressure to bear on Water Authorities in the south east to build new reservoirs to cater for the thousands and thousands of new homes being built in their area.

More details

Global Warming means less rainfall in autumn and winter in the south east, resulting in less water being available in the summer.
Severe water restrictions will become commonplace if Water Authorities do not build more reservoirs to be able to supply water to the thousands and thousands of new homes being built and the heavy demand of water these homes will generate.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The operations of individual providers of water, sanitation and drainage services are a matter for the private providers of these services, not the Government or House of Commons.

There are already standards of service for customers of water and sewerage companies, which are set by Ofwat, the economic regulator of the water sector in England and Wales: https://www.ofwat.gov.uk/households/supply-and-standards/standards-of-service/
