Rejected petition Reverse the new rule so restaurants DO NOT have to state calorie counts on menus

Under new rules, restaurants will have to publish calorie counts for meals they serve. I am calling for this rule to be revoked - there is no need for calorie counts to be published on menus.

Seeing this information will be highly triggering for the 1-3 million individuals in the UK who have eating disorders. It will mean many individuals can no longer eat out. If calorie information needs to be published it should be done so online so those who do not wish to see it. Calories are not an effective measure of the ‘healthiness’ of food (for example a large salad can have more calories than a McDonalds burger) and therefore this step by the government is unnecessary.

Why was this petition rejected?

There’s already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.
