Closed petition Make Violation of Telephone Preference Service A Crime

Closed on

Computerised calling systems routinely ignore the Telephone Preference System when making cold calls, especially computer generated cold calls.
Ofcom has few enforcement powers and takes far too long to enforce the powers it has.
The Department for Culture, Media & Sport should introduce a bill to enforce restrictions on who can be cold-called.
Anyone registered with TPS who complains to Ofcom about cold-calling should be entitled to compensation (say £250) whenever they are cold-called, as soon as the number of complaints exceeds 100.
Cold callers who do not identify themselves and their company at the very start of the call should have an immediate withdrawal of service enforced when 100 complaints of non-identificatio are made.
