Rejected petition Re-Criminalise Rape in the UK
Currently, under 2% of reported rapists in the UK face prosecution. In addition to this, just 15% of all rapes are reported. Laws need to change so that rapists are held accountable for the violent crimes they’ve committed, and so that victims can come forward knowing their case won’t be dropped.

The government has the power to change the way crimes are prosecuted, why are we still protecting rapists? Imagine if less than 2% of murderers faced prosecution, it is not right.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Rape is already a criminal offence. Decisions about investigating alleged offences are a matter for the police, and decisions about whether to charge alleged perpetrators is a matter for the Crown Prosecution Service not the Government or House of Commons.
You could for the Government to review how sexual offences are investigated and prosecuted, with a view to identifying how the number of cases that are successfully investigated and prosecuted can be increased.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
