Rejected petition Ensure free access to The Pirate Bay in the UK

More details

The High Court as ruled that file-sharing site The Pirate Bay must be blocked by UK internet service providers.

"Sites like The Pirate Bay destroy jobs in the UK and undermine investment in new British artists," the British Phonographic Industry has said.

However, The Pirate Bay don't provide illegal music or films, they only provide a list of links, much like any search engine. Many examples of legally shared, open source, out of copyright material exists and blocking The Pirate Bay would stop access to all this legitimate material too.

The record and film industry need to change their business model and adapt to new technologies, NOT force the court to censor the internet. Today it is The Pirate Bay, tomorrow it might be porn, the day after it may be all sites that the Government doesn't want you to know about.

The Internet is far too important to allow Government and Courts to censor it. Censorship of the Internet must be stopped, now.
