Owning a bank account is so critical to living and working in modern day Britain that the government should take measures to ensure everyone has access to affordable banking.

The government should not leave the private sector as the sole provider of consumer banking, as there are many individuals who for one reason or another are denied access to private sector accounts.

A public sector bank, with automatic accounts for anyone with a NI number would ensure everyone has access to banking services.
