Drivers consistently ignore mobile phone laws as they are unafraid of the consequences... Present laws should be updated to allow for heavier penalties reflecting the seriousness of the offence and potential dangers caused to other road users. Until that point they will not consider if the risk of being caught is worth the inconvenience of not using their phone.

Proposal minimum penalty: Fixed penalty notice be updated to Six points and £200 fine as for driving without insurance.
