Petition disclose which animal-testing labs test which drugs
More details
The law should be changed so that pharmaceutical companies are required to disclose which animal-testing labs test which drugs, i.e. name the labs and name the drugs they test.
This is necessary in the interests of public health and safety so that appropriate action can be taken when things go wrong, i.e. failing labs can be looked at and closed if necessary.
Human life is more important than commercial interests and the law should reflect this which it does not do at present.
With 197 000 deaths in the European Union every year caused by adverse drug reactions caused by animal-tested drugs (Brussels Memo, 10th December, 2008) it is absurd that the public does not get to know which labs test which drugs.
In addition, the requirement to reveal which animal-testing labs test which drugs should apply retrospectively so that we can find out, for example, which animal-testing lab tested Vioxx which killed 150 000 people worldwide (US Food and Drug Administration figures).
