Rejected petition Allow the NHS to charge for drink and drug related patient intakes.
More details
I was shocked when I had to make a surprise visit to a new multimillion hospital in Blackburn, Lancashire.
In the Ambulance parking bays were approximately 10 Ambulances, please remember each ambulance has 2 staff – therefore in A&E there was 20, yes 20 Ambulance personnel all waiting for doctors and nurses to take over.. That is a lot of people in a small A&E !!!
Was there a hue train crash, was there a major terrorist incident or was there a riot at a local football match – the answer is no!!
The majority of the patients forcing the Ambulance crews to wait were DRUNK people.
I believe the answer is quiet simple, let’s keep the NHS free to those who need it, however I believe people who cost the NHS time and money due to drink and drug related injuries should be forced to pay for their stay and treatment.
I know there are a lot of formalities to consider before implementing something like this, but in principal it is pretty simple.
I hope common sense prevails.
