Petition Free sports for all children nationwide- the Olympic legacy

More details

We must make sure that the success of London 2012 inspires our next generation of sporting talent- the promised Olympic legacy.
The UK is in the middle of an obesity crisis, with only 5% of people active enough.
Yet in 2010, schools secretary Michael Gove axed £162m of money for sport in state schools. "The Olympic legacy down the plughole," said Trevor Allen at the time, headteacher of Dorothy Stringer specialist sports college in Brighton.
First News children's paper wants the Government to put right its wrong by coming up with a scheme to provide free sport for all young people. It's not just about school sport. Many of GB’s Olympic wins have come from sports like cycling, rowing, tennis & sailing.
The chance for kids who show passion & talent for a sport to become Olympic heroes of the future should not be affected by whether their families can afford to pay expensive club fees.
First News is calling for free membership for all Under 16s at a sports centre of their choice.
