During the London 2012 Olympics I stood for the national anthems of many nations, including Great Britain's, but I did not sing at all.

Some of our winning athletes clearly felt uncomfortable too.

We don't all believe there is a God.

We don't all believe we need a Queen.

We do need a national anthem we can all believe in.

We do need a national anthem we can all be happy to sing.

We need a new national anthem.

The government should commission the writing of a new national anthem.
