Closed petition Give police the power to evict travellers

Closed on

At this moment the law makes it extremely complicated to remove travellers when they are illegally occupying sites, even though any person sleeping in their own car for one night is committing an offence and can be moved on by the police.

A change to the law needs to be made which gives police the power to immediately move on travellers that occupy a site, and also to give police powers to prosecute repeat offenders even if they move on to occupy a different location.

Any damage caused to the occupied site must be fully repaired to original status and the costs covered entirely by the offending travellers, all forms of pollution must also be removed in accordance to UK laws governing waste disposal and the costs covered entirely by the offending travellers.

Failure to comply with this new law should lead to full prosecution including a possible jail sentence for the worst repeat offenders.
