We the undersigned urge the government not to award the Great western franchise to FirstGroup again.

FirstGroup consistently rate amongst the worst of the train operators in passenger satisfaction surveys - they should show improvements in their existing services before being able to bid on more or carry on with this franchise.

The Government should look at more than the highest bidder - look what happened with G4S at London 2012.

I urge the government to look at this before it is awarded later this year or next year (2013) to seek public opinion in these franchise bids.

The winner of the franchise is expected to be announced in December 2012, with the new franchise expected to start in April 2013. It was announced in late July 2012 that the new franchise will not now start until 21 July 2013 after delays with the DfT issuing the Invitation to Tender document.
