Rejected petition Close down the sun newspaper
More details
On the 15th of April 1989 the terrible and horrific Hillsborough tragedy occurred, at this time of sadness and grieving for many families this " newspaper" wrote damning headlines and damaging reports of events , reports that were beyond hard hitting, verging on vendetta driven. The editor Calvin Mckenzie and other journalists took this action to lie and fabricate stories to increase their sales , stories which were completely unfounded were published and families of victims endured pointless pain. The sister paper of this organisation was recently closed after other horrific behaviour , I ask is it right both morally and emotionally to allow this organisation to print newspapers .

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
In the UK, the press is not subject to state regulation. The Government believes that this is fundamental to our democracy. That is why the government does not interfere in what a newspaper or magazine chooses to publish. However, with this freedom comes great responsibility.
Newspapers must, of course, abide by the law, but they also sign up to a Code of Practice, overseen by the independent Press Complaints Commission (PCC). The Editor's Code of Practice sets a benchmark for the standards the press is expected to maintain.
If you would like any more information on the PCC and the Editors’ Code of Practice, it can be found on the PCC’s website at: http://www.pcc.org.uk.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
