Rejected petition Closure of News International (Owner of The Sun) For Allowing The Publication Of The Lies Relating To The Events Of Hillsborough

More details

We all now know about the lies printed in the aftermath of the Hillsborough Disaster in 1989, now it's time for justice to take its true course. I am starting this petition to close down NI Group Limited, the owners of The Sun newspaper for allowing them to print those lies that tarnished the reputation of Liverpool and more importantly the families of the 96 that died on that tragic day!

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

In the UK, the press is not subject to state regulation. The Government believes that this is fundamental to our democracy. That is why the government does not interfere in what a newspaper or magazine chooses to publish. However, with this freedom comes great responsibility.

Newspapers must, of course, abide by the law, but they also sign up to a Code of Practice, overseen by the independent Press Complaints Commission (PCC). The Editor's Code of Practice sets a benchmark for the standards the press is expected to maintain.

If you would like any more information on the PCC and the Editors’ Code of Practice, it can be found on the PCC’s website at: http://www.pcc.org.uk.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
