Rejected petition Ban any virtual media which promotes and insults Islam and the blessed Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)

More details

Dear Sir/Madam,

We would like penalties to be given to individuals who insult Islam or the Blessed Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), similair penalties to those which that are given for someone being disrespectful to Holocaust. We appeal to Government to pass rulings which will prevent people slandering and defaming such noble personalities in Islam and any other religion for that matter.

We would also like to request YouTube and Google be held answerable for providing a platform to such hateful, slanderous and defamatory content. Until they apologise and remove such videos their access should be banned in the UK.

We would like these people to stop using freedom of speech to promote and incite religious hatred.

Many Thanks

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

In the UK we support a self-regulatory model for the Internet and the vast majority of the UK ISP industry takes a responsible approach to what content it hosts. ISPs have contracts with their customers called good practice Acceptable Use Policies (AUPs), which they have recently strengthened, about what may be hosted on their servers.

Therefore, complaints about a particular website’s content should first be directed to the site’s manager. Most AUPs already contain a general clause which allows ISPs to remove sites or content which contain offensive or objectionable material, even if it is not illegal.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
