Petition parliamentary enquiry into deaths in custody caused by positional asphyxia
More details
A large number of people, often charged with no crime, are restrained in police stations, streets, prisons and hospitals using face-down restraint such that the pressure on the lungs / heart causes cardiac arrest. Notable recent cases include those of Christopher Alder,
Sean Rigg and Jacob Michael (still under inquest). The government should have an appropriate enquiry gathering legal and scientific evidence with a view to deciding whether face-down restraint should be made an illegal form of restraint.
