Closed petition FREE road Tax for all classic vehicles over 25 years old – preserve British motoring heritage
Closed on
Re-introduce a 30 year rolling vehicle excise duty exemption scheme, for classic vehicles.
Currently this is only available for vehicles that were registered before 1973.
Reintroducing a rolling 25 year term would mean that vehicles registered before 1987 would benefit from free road tax.
Reintroduction is vital to:
• increase the desirability to own and run these vehicles thus enabling and encouraging their preservation;
• decrease the cost of keeping classic cars on the roads therefore allowing owners to afford to run their vehicles more easily.
There is a vibrant industry to support classic cars, which should be supported. Many classic cars in the UK are British built, hence being an important part of British motoring heritage. With the UK car manufacturing industry almost defunct, preserving its history is vital.
