If employees of BBC are found to have been involved in a cover up of the events surrounding the Savile debacle, it is unreasonable to expect either the tax payer or the licence fee payer to provide compensation. Compensation should be provided by the guilty parties. If the corporation is found wanting, the licence fee should be abolished and the corporation disolved or forced to provide its own income via advertising.
