Petition DWP to recognise Trimethylaminuria (TMAU) as a serious medical condition.

More details

We hereby petition the government to recognise Trimethylaminuria as a serious medical condition with the addition of Trimethylaminuria as a medical condition on the DWP website Change the DLA application policy towards patients with Trimethylaminuria acknowledging TMAU to be eligible for a DLA award Also have the knowledge of a specialist metabolic consultant to hand if required for the decision making process so that TMAU can be clearly understood when deciding whether an applicant fulfils the criteria for DLA TMAU is a rare metabolic disease that causes a defect in the normal production of the enzyme FMO3 When FMO3 is not working correctly or if not enough enzyme is produced the body loses the abilty to properly break down TMA from precursor compounds in food digestion into TMAO through a process called N-oxygenation Trimethylaminuria then builds up and is released in the persons sweat/urine/breath/other bodily secrections giving off a strong unpleasent odor.
