Closed petition Full disclosure in food labelling
Closed on
In light of recent events relative to the horse and pig dna discovered in what was otherwise considered to be a beef product, I should like you to enjoin me in calling our government to draft additional legislation with respect to food labelling as to make it more comprehensive, and frankly honest.
In doing so, the penalty for omissions and errors must be consequential so as to provide the necessary detriment to this type of behaviour in the future.
Food labels should simply state, in their entirety, what ingredients are packaged within. There should be no acceptable classifications of ingredients as in colourings or flavourings. The exact compounds should be explicitly labelled and the labelling must be complete so that the consumer may make an informed decision, not be misled to one.
