Copyright is supposed to be a balance between the rights of creatives people and society as a whole. It should be set at the economic welfare-maximising level of 15 years. This delivers the maximum benefit to society.

We should end the current corporatist regime with immediate effect and all creative works more than 15 years old should immediately pass into the public domain.
