Closed petition Ban ablative neurosurgery for mental disorder
Closed on
Ablative Neurosurgery for Mental Disorder is a permanent destruction of healthy brain tissue in order to alleviate the symptoms of mental illness. Non-permanent and reversible alternatives are now available and many other countries have outlawed the procedure. The government should re-consider the views given to the Royal College of Psychiatrists from the largest UK Mental Health Charity MIND in 2000: "there was absolutely and emphatically no place for neurosurgery in the treatment of mental disorder."
