To introduce an adjustment to the scheme for MPs allowances in respect of second homes so that if they have more than one bedroom the amount payable in allowance will be reduced as follows:

If they have one extra bedroom the amount payable in allowance will be reduced by 14 per cent.

If they have two or more extra bedrooms the amount payable in allowance will be reduced by 25 per cent.

The only exception to this will be if the MP requires support from a carer who needs to stay overnight.

This adjustment should take effect from May 2013.
