Closed petition Free prescriptions for anticoagulants (Warfarin, etc)

Closed on

Im calling for the Government to add the conditions which require life long use of Anticoagulants to the medical exemption conditions list so people with these conditions can get FREE NHS prescriptions for the Anticoagulants they require.

An anticoagulant such as Warfarin is used to decrease the tendency for thrombosis or as secondary prophylaxis (prevention of further episodes) in those individuals that have already formed a blood clot (thrombus). Warfarin treatment can help prevent formation of future blood clots and help reduce the risk of embolism (migration of a thrombus to a spot where it blocks blood supply to a vital organ).

Warfarin is used as treatment for people with atrial fibrillation, the presence of artificial heart valves, deep venous thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism (where the embolized clots first form in veins). Warfarin is also used in antiphospholipid syndrome.

Many people have to take Warfarin daily for life and failure to do so could prove to be fatal!
