Rejected petition Torquay Outside Seating

More details

Torbay Council have served local businesses with notice that this years charges for their Pavement Licences will increase by 600%.

The businesses already pay high rents and business rates, and only turn a profit from their outside seating when the sun shines, and so this is hugely unfair and has been tagged by the local press as a "tax on cafe culture".

Coupled with the fact that plans are being quietly approved for a 7 story, 5 star hotel, on the Marina Car Park, next to the neglected and empty Pavillion building, locals are rightly beginning to protest.

This campaign is backed by the Federation of Small Businesses and the Towns Centre Company, and since the story broke yesterday (Thursday 28th Feb) has had huge support on social network sites.

This petition will be presented to all local councillors, and Torbay's Mayor, Gordon Oliver.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

This is a matter for the local authority - central Government (to whom e-petitions are directed) has no power to intervene.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
