allow students to claim job seekers allowance and housing benefit during the summer break. many students are expected to pay rental on a property thoughout the summer vacation at their place of study to ensure they have a suitable residence to return to in September. The current student loan system does not cover this period hence a student may have to find £1000 or so with little or no income
