Genetically modified organisms provide the potential to create more robust and higher yielding crops which can grow on poorer ground without the need for the intense application of herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers; globally important factors which could help developing economies and prevent the destruction of more natural habitat for farm land.

This government should support the safe research of GMO’s in a controlled environment and condemn protestors who intentionally disrupt and destroy such trials. It should also oppose highly restrictive patents, such as those used by Monsanto, which can cripple farmers economically and have brought the industry into disrepute.

It is not playing God, just using the tools at our disposal to create a better world.
