Closed Force Council compliance with sect 189 of the Hosing Act 1996

Under Section 189 of the Housing Act 1996, a homeless person will have a priority need for rehousing if s/he is vulnerable as a result of "having been a member of Her Majesty’s regular naval, military or air forces".

Councils are clearly ignoring this rule to the detriment of Ex Forces Personnel and veterans, many of whom are suffering from physical injuries & mental illness.

The UK Independence Party calls upon the Communities and Local Government secretary, Mr Pickles, to force local council housing authorities to comply with this regulation and make homes available for Ex Forces Personnel & Military Veterans top priority.
