The existing rolling road method of producing the mpg figures on new cars is unrepresentative and unrealistic.

The motor industry should be forced to produce a true figure of Miles Per Gallon, based on an independent "varied use open road test" done on new cars.

This would stop manufacturers from enticing customers with mpg figures that are almost unachievable under normal driving conditions.
