Closed petition Make 'Nurse' a protected title

Closed on

Your profession needs you!
The title 'Nurse' is protected in America, New Zealand and Australia, however in the UK it is not!

Here “Nurse” is currently a default term of reference to describe someone involved in the delivery of care in our hospitals and healthcare settings. This is misleading.
We believe that individuals accessing health care have a right to know that those looking after them and advising them about their health are suitably prepared, qualified professionals who are accountable for their practice and regulated by a professional body.
This is a matter of public safety, which post the “Francis report” is supposed to be a health policy priority.
Making “Nurse” a protected title is a right not a privilege, and would restore public confidence and professional pride.
Call yourself a Nurse? Then protect it!
