Rejected petition Under 16 Minimum Wage
More details
Minimum wage is given to all above the age of 16, teenagers in part time work are at a disadvantage as they not entitled to this right.
We discovered that 54% of teenagers are in some form of employement, working an average of 3 hours a week.
Entitling teenagers to a minimum wage would also encourage them to work part-time, will also benefit their work ethic and would also better enable them to be active parts of society when older. It would also improve there skills, which may help them in their education.
As well as benefiting teenagers, a minimum wage would also help local businesses, by providing them with competitive labour in a tough financial climate.
We want the government to implement a minimum wage for people age 14 - 15 inclusive, between £2.00 and £2.70.
