Petition Legal Protection of British Sign Language
More details
Despite the "official" recognition of British Sign Language in 2003, (used by an estimated 122,000 people in the UK, according to recent British Deaf Association figures) it still has NO protection in law, which means that deaf people continue to struggle with lack of communication support in their daily lives when it comes to education, work, health, banking and political representation.
This e-petition "calls on the Government to prepare a short, cross-departmental report which pulls together all that it is currently doing to support BSL users and to identify the barriers that still remain to BSL user's full participation in, and contribution to, British society".
