Petition Inquests - Police Evidence - Hillsborough
More details
In December 2012, the original inquest verdicts of Accidental Death at the Hillsborough Disaster were quashed by the High Court.
Since then the New inquest process has taken another 4 months to properly get underway.
During the initial new hearings to determine location of the new inquests etc, barristers for the police officers involved stated that as there are ongoing criminal investigations, that serving and retired police officers involved would refuse to give evidence on the grounds they may incriminate themselves.
The police are here to protect the public, they are here to ensure safety, they are NOT here to form a club to cover their own potential culpability in crimes.
We the undersigned believe the law needs to change to FORCE serving and retired police officers to give evidence at inquest hearings. Silence or refusal to co-operate should be seen as contempt of court.
